About the web

The Catalan Water Agency was created in January 2000 and published its web page ten months later.

Since it was first published, we have been improving and increasing the website’s content in order to provide information and service to citizens, collaborating bodies and other water authorities. We have updated the website’s design, content and navigation on three occasions, in the years 2002, 2004 and this year, 2006.

The objectives of this last change have been: to increase the ease of access to information, the navigation and the accessibility of the website for people with special needs; naturally within the framework of the web design of the Government of Catalonia.

In order to improve management and efficiency, we have gradually incorporated different applications, which now number around 30. For example, since February 2005 it has been possible to apply for the extension of the Water Rate brackets and, since April, industrial establishments have been able to present their Declaration of Use and Pollution of Water and make their quarterly declaration of water consumption entirely on-line, with no need for paper or travelling, thanks to the use of the digital signature. The extension of this technology to further procedures is one of the Agency's objectives for the future.
