Responsibilities of the other entities that intervene in the water cycle

Town Councils

They are the organisations with authority over:

• Domestic supply or downstream supply.
• Water treatment in the municipality or water treatment downstream.
• And the health control of wastewater.

However, they may decide not to carry out this function directly, by contracting a management company for the domestic water supply service.

Local water entities

These are responsibilities within the area of the municipalities that make up the LWA:

• The management of one or more public wastewater treatment systems to be paid by the Agency.
• Upstream water supply.
• Downstream water supply.
• Other authorities belonging to the Catalan Water Agency which it delegates or assigns to each LWA, on its request.

Public Companies offering services upstream

• Aigües Ter Llobregat

It is the public company belonging to the Department of the Environment and Housing of the Government of Catalonia, responsible for supplying drinking water upstream to the towns in the area it covers.

• Consorci d'Aigües de Tarragona

This is an association made up of the Government of Catalonia, Town Councils and industries in the province of Tarragona and representatives of the two communities of crop irrigators of the Ebro Delta responsible for supplying water upstream.

• Consorci de la Costa Brava

Formed by Girona Regional Council and by 27 town councils from the Girona coast, it is the body responsible for supplying and treating water upstream.

• Association of Waters of les Garrigues

Local entity with competences about the establishment, the built, the maintenance and the contribution of the service of potable water supply to all towns that integrate the Association.
